In 2001, Lucent Technologies stated that its Microelectronics Group would be renamed Agere System. The choice of company name is based on Lucent's acquisition of the original Agere Systems, and Lucent Microelectronics has since absorbed its network programmable processor technology. Lucent plans to separate Agere System and sell 20% of the new company's shares in the first quarter of 2001. The remaining shares will be sold out in the form of tax exemption.
