This server support includes OpenSolaris specific driver support to allow customers to use the AHA363-PCIe board as the compression engine, rather than software GZIP and/or ZLIB.This new driver, when combined with the AHA compression accelerator board, can compress both static and dynamic content in real time. Sending compressed Web content saves bandwidth creating a better user experience by reducing download time and link requirements. Compressing content with hardware, rather than software, increases the total throughput handled by the server. Hardware compression through the AHA card is typically ten times faster than equivalent software compression. Storage servers can use hardware compression to decrease their storage footprint and reduce overall data center power consumption.
