Templeton will continue to serve as executive chairman of Texas Instruments. In 1999, Texas Instruments acquired Butterfly, an Israeli wireless start-up company. Haviv Ilan became a member of Texas Instruments because of the acquisition, and he was later promoted to COO of Texas Instruments.
Texas Instruments has a history of 92 years, and the company says the personnel changes are a well-planned and orderly succession. However, Texas Instruments also changed the CEO in 2018, but ultimately failed. In 2018, Templeton resigned to make way for the then COO Brian Crutcher. At that time, Texas Instruments also said that the personnel replacement was a well-planned and orderly succession. It's a pity that Kratcher left a month later, and Templeton took over again.
Templeton joined TI in 1980 after earning a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Union University in New York. He spent his limited career in the company's semiconductor business, starting in sales and eventually becoming Chairman, President and CEO of the entire enterprise. He was named the "Best CEO of a Semiconductor Company in America" by Senior Investor twice in 2007 and 2008.
He was elected Chairman of the Board in April 2008 and has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since May 2004. He has been a member of the company's board of directors since July 2003.
Templeton served as TI's chief operating officer from April 2000 to April 2004. From June 1996 to April 2004, he served as the company's executive vice president and president of TI's semiconductor business unit.
Templeton is credited with helping define and execute TI's strategy to focus on semiconductors for signal processing. Operationally, he steered TI through the worst downturn in semiconductor history while preserving the company's strategic investments in R&D and advanced manufacturing. Under his outstanding leadership, TI's strategy, technology and product position have become increasingly solid, and the company's analog and DSP core technologies have grown market share in each of the last five years.
In addition to his service to TI, Templeton is a member of the Semiconductor Industry Association Board of Directors, the Catalyst Board of Directors, and the Methodist University Council. He is also a member of the Business Roundtable and the Dallas Chief Executive Roundtable. State Instruments announced Tuesday that company CEO Brian Crutcher has resigned. This is less than two months after Kratcher became CEO of Texas Instruments. Texas Instruments also announced that the company's former CEO Rich Templeton (Rich Templeton) will return as full-time CEO
In the quarter ended Sept. 30 last year, Texas Instruments had a net profit of $2.3 billion and revenue of $5.24 billion, up 18 percent and 13 percent, respectively, from a year earlier. TI's revenue comes mostly from analog products, including chips that process signals into data for use by other chips; more than a third of its revenue comes from industrial sectors such as energy, healthcare and defense.
