SICK AG, the leading manufacturer of industrial sensors, safety systems and automatic identification solutions for factory automation and products for process analysis and environmental measurement, is acquiring Max Stegmann GmbH, a leading manufacturer of shaft encoders and actuators for automation technology, effective October 1, 2002.

With this acquisition SICK AG has completed its product portfolio in the area of factory automation and in a stroke achieved a significant market position in the area of shaft encoders. In addition to optical, inductive, magnetic and capacitive sensors, customers can now also obtain rotary sensors (shaft encoders) from SICK.

In the USA, SICK, Inc., North American subsidiary of SICK AG, and Stegmann, Inc., North American subsidiary of Max Stegmann GmbH, will continue to operate independently. However, relationships between the two companies will be formed, taking advantage of any synergies that benefit mutual customers.
