Littelfuse introduces SMC automotive-grade 3kA SIDACtor for high inrush current AC power line protection in a high power density package requiring approximately 50% less printed circuit board space.

Littelfuse introduces a new family of Pxxx0S3N-A automotive-grade 3kA SIDACtor protection thyristors in DO-214AB (SMC) packages. Designed to provide robust and reliable high inrush current protection for devices operating in harsh environments, this innovative product enables designers to more easily meet regulatory requirements.

 Pxxx0S3N-A Automotive Grade 3kA SIDACtor Protection Thyristor Series


The main advantage of the Pxxx0S3N-A series is its high power density design, capable of withstanding surge currents up to 3kA (8/20µs) and voltages up to 6kV with very low clamping voltages. This compact SIDACtor device is available in a DO-214AB (SMC) package, allowing automakers to achieve high power density designs and product miniaturization in automotive electronics.


Developed for pure electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) applications, the Pxxx0S3N-A series provides superior transient surge protection for on-board chargers when used in combination with MOVs. By integrating this compact SIDACtor into their systems, automakers can provide more reliable, robust and cost-effective AC power protection for charging systems.


The new 3kA SIDACtor is the first thyristor product in the DO-214AB package to offer 6kV/3kA (8/20µs) surge protection. Previously, achieving such a high surge rating required a larger TO-262 package. This compact SIDACtor easily protects against severe transients and is ideal for exposed applications such as:


- Pure electric vehicles (EV/BEV)

- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)

Comparison with conventional solutions

The Pxxx0S3N-A is more compact and offers surge ratings that are well suited for highly exposed applications. This is a significant advantage over the Pxxx0FNL 3kA SIDACtor family in a TO-262M package, requiring approximately 50% less PC board space.

This new product represents a leap forward and is the first DO-214AB size on the market capable of handling 6kV/3kA (8/20) surges. Prior to this improvement, achieving this level of protection required a larger TO-262 package.
