Recently, Micron 9400 series data center enterprise NVMe solid-state drive SSD was released and put into mass production.  It is reported that the hard drive has a maximum storage capacity of 30.72TB, adopts 176 layers of 3D TLC particles, and has a read and write speed of one million IOPS, which increases IOPS by 77% per second!

 

Professional information shows: Micron is one of the world's largest manufacturers of semiconductor storage and imaging products.  Its main products include DRAM, NAND flash memory, NOR flash memory, SSD solid state drive and CMOS image sensor. The head office (Micron Technology, Inc.) is located in Boise, the capital of Idaho in the northwestern United States.  This time, Micron launched a high-performance data center SSD, only to meet the most demanding workload challenges.

 

In fact, as early as 2017, Micron Technology's NVMe storage has been fully fired, releasing unused capacity and performance.

 

In early 2022, Micron launched a new NVMe SSD product portfolio to improve client computing performance. Micron then launched a new firmware that complies with the "Open Compute Project Data Center NVMe SSD 2.0". Until the end of the year, Micron shipped the world's first consumer client SSD based on 232-layer NAND Flash chips, which is also equipped with 2550 NVMe M.2 SSD product line. At that time, the parameters of the 2550 SSD showed that the reading speed could reach 5000MB/s, an increase of 112%! The 3D TLC NAND flash has the highest density and was first used in Micron's Crucial SSD. Today, Crucial's first PCIe 5 solid-state drive is about to be released, which uses Micron's 232-layer 3D NAND.

In addition, at the end of last year, Micron's inventory was stuck for as long as 214 days, and the price of memory could not be sold, but it is obvious that the worst days have not yet come.  As memory chips encounter a "blizzard", major manufacturers such as Micron and Samsung are in trouble. The media reported at the end of last year that due to the decline in demand for computer chips, Micron Technology (MU. US) Q1 revenue fell by 47% year-on-year, and it will lay off about 10% of its employees in 2023. Micron also announced a personnel change a few days ago: the appointment of Meng Tiss is vice president and general manager of the mobile business unit. Micron said: We are in one of the worst memory recessions in the past 13 years.

 

The Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry said in recent days that Micron will provide more than US$1 billion in assistance to Micron's factories in Japan.  In September 2022, the Japanese government has planned to provide Micron with US$320 million in funding to boost memory chip production.

It is understood that the Micron 7450 solid state now supports the OCP SSD 2.0 specification and has been shipped to some customers. In addition, Micron is also upgrading OCP storage support for cloud data centers and enterprise data centers.

 

In the field of solid-state drives, the Samsung 990 PRO flagship PCIe 4.0 solid-state drive has also been greatly upgraded recently , and its random write performance has increased by more than 50%.

 

Last year, Samsung's top solid-state hard drive has already ushered in a big discount: 990 PRO NVMe M.2 solid-state hard drive 1TB fell below 1,000 yuan.
