This electronics project is a piece of testing equipment. This is a square wave generator with selectable frequencies from 1Hz to 100kHz, in increments of 10 times the value. This square wave generator electronics project is based on the popular 555 timer IC and generates six preset frequencies from 1Hz to 100kHz. It has a wide operating voltage range and even provides a visual display output.
This is one of the most useful square wave generator projects for radio signal lines and televisions. A square wave is best used for testing signals in the intermediate frequency (IF) region and will pass through the IF transformer without any attenuation, no matter what the tuning frequency of the circuit is. The 555 timer is configured for astable operation, which means it will trigger itself as a free-running multivibrator. The timing components resistors R1, R2 and capacitors (C1 - C6) have the values shown in this figure, resulting in six frequencies 1Hz, 10Hz, 100Hz, 1KHz. If you want to generate a variable frequency 10kHz to 100kHz, you can connect a 68K resistor with a 10K resistor trimmer. This square wave oscillator electronics project can be powered with a power supply with a voltage of 5 to 18 V DC, but a 9 V DC power supply is generally recommended.
